SpiderBot….SpiderBot…Doing Whatever A SpiderBot Does
….LOOK OUT, here comes the SpiderBot. If SRI International hasn’t devised a name for this creation, than SpiderBot seems like a perfect fit. In a blog, by Mark Rutherford, on C/Net, he reports about new adhesion technology that gives robots the means to climb walls.
The technology is called “electroadhesion”, and is all the rage in the robotic world. The name pretty much explains how it works. Basically, they induce electric charges on the surface they are trying to climb, which the robot uses to clamp to the surface. The great thing about electroadhesion, is that it can’t stick to nearly any kind of surface; rough, smooth, concrete, steel, drywall, brick, and so on.
