The Internet Is Still In Infancy; According To The Father

It’s hard to believe that the internet as we know it is nearly 15 years old. It was back around 1993 when the first code for the internet went public. The BBC has released a very interesting article, about the beginnings of the World Wide Web (WWW).

Berners-Lee’s outlook on the future of the internet is positive. He believes that the web will, “put all the data in the world at the fingertips of every user”

Berners-Lee
Tim Berners-Lee: The Father Of The Internet

Berners-Lee really hit the nail on the head, when he talked about how much good the internet has done, along with the bad. The proof can be seen with sites like Politico, who bring actual important political news to people. Then you have videos like this, on YouTube to counter the good.

Or, maybe you like watching fat people dance. According to Berners-Lee, we’ve just tapped the possibilities, “The experience of international collaboration continues. Also the spirit that really we have only started to explore the possibilities of [the web], that continues.”

It’s also interesting to read about how they wanted to make the code for the internet free to the people. The thought process, was that if they charged a royalty fee for internet usage it would have never caught on. Although Berners-Lee and the others at CERN might have had bigger wallets, I’d say their hypothesis was right. It will definitely be interesting to see how the future of the web pans out, will we be getting more credible, and thought-provoking sites, or more fat men dancing? The answer is, probably a bit of both.

Have your say
