Window’s Silverlight Looks To Be David, Against Adobe Flash’s Goliath
Who would ever think that Mirosoft and underdog would ever be used in the same sentence. When Microsoft tries to enter the web application business, with “Silverlight”, an “underdog” is exactly what they’ll be. Right now pretty much any application, movie, you see online is powered by Adobe Flash.
Microsoft hopes to build their niche in the market, through the mobile internet industry. Nokia will be the first to adopt Silverlight, when it releases its’ S60 line. The S60 will use Symbian, a mobile operating system which in turn will use the Silverlight software for its’ applications.
To say that Microsoft’s venture into the mobile software market will have many obstacles is an understatement. Flash is being used by more than a million phones at the current numbers. Adobe Flash is being used solely on 18 of 20 cell phone manufacturers around the world.
Of course if anyone can come into a new market and gain a foothold it’s Microsoft. They did it with the internet browser, they’re becoming heavy competition as a relative newcomer in the video game market, and they’re trying with the Zune.
Have your say
